Quartermaster records for the 2nd Vermont Volunteer Infantry Regiment covering the years 1861 to1866.: volume 1 covers supplies for the headquarters and officers; volume 2 is an inventory of supplies on hand March through June 1863; volume 3 covers clothing and equipment for 1861and 1862; volume 4 contains the returns for over 100 officers in 1865-1866; volume 5 is an index to supplies furnished at Belle Plain, Virgina in 1863; volume 6 covers articles issued from the bake house, stables, medicines, tools, etc.; volume 7 covers forage for 1862-1863; volume 8 is a running report of persons and articles from August and September 1863, and also a listing of what was paid to colored labors; volume 9 is a list of stores transferred to Captain Perley P. Pitkin in May 1863, also telegrams sent, transportation given, passes issued and forage received and issued in October 1863.

Perley P. Pitkin of Montpelier, Vt., was commissioned 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster for the 2nd Vermont Regiment on June 6, 1861. He was promoted to Captain, and named Assistant Quartermaster, U.S. Volunteers, on February 19, 1862. He was made Colonel and Chief Quartermaster, U.S. Volunteers, on August 2, 1864. He resigned on November 7, 1864, to accept a promotion as Quartermaster-General, State of Vermont, with rank of Brigadier General. He held that office for six years by succe...
